Treat severe period pain as endometriosis until proven otherwise

Pain cannot be compared between people. Endometriosis worsens year on year and causes infertility — but effective treatment exists.

Pain cannot be compared with anyone else, which is exactly why it is hard to judge. Needing painkillers every month — or still hurting despite them — points to dysmenorrhoea. Endometriosis then worsens year on year until menopause, damaging tubes and ovaries.

What you can do now

Severe pain warrants treatment even when the ultrasound looks normal. The pill or dienogest can stop the progression.
